Home Remedies for Treating Bacterial Vaginosis

Bacterial Vaginosis is a vaginal infection that is caused by an imbalance of naturally occurring bacterial flora in the female organ thereby discharging a thin white/grayish discharge, which usually has a fishy smell and is usually worse after sex or during a period. The most common symptoms of vaginosis include irritation or soreness in and around the vagina, as well as itching and swelling of the vaginal walls. Bacterial Vaginosis should be treated directly if symptoms are already being experienced by women who always engage in sexual intercourse. Untreated Vaginosis may cause serious complications, such as increased susceptibility to sexually transmitted infections such as HIV, and may present other complications for pregnant women. There are various home remedies for treating Bacterial Vaginosis, mostly involving women practicing good personal hygiene to prevent the bacteria from spreading into the vagina. Some things women can do to prevent Bacterial Vaginosis would be wiping or washing their genitals from front to back in a disciplined manner to avoid bacteria transferring from rectum to vagina. Always keep the vaginal area clean. Also as a precautionary measure, women should avoid wearing tight clothes and prefer to wear cotton underwear to avoid irritation; avoid scented or treated toilet paper, which includes scented feminine hygiene products, and to always practice safe sex by using condoms. When Vaginitis already occurs, apply cold compress to relieve the swelling and itching. Eat or apply plain yogurt directly to the vagina; an alternative way would be to insert a tampon soaked in yogurt. Garlic also has antibacterial and antifungal properties that can help ease the itching and inflammation; it can be taken internally or can be applied directly to the vagina. And finally, maintain a good and healthy diet; eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables. Include flax seed oil and meat in your diet. Drink lots of water. Eat non vegetarian foods like meat, poultry and fish. Eat whole grains. Avoid alcohol, refined flour, processed foods, sugar, coffee and saturated fats. If symptoms still persist and you can no longer ease the pain caused by Bacterial Vaginosis, then better seek the help of a medical professional before matters become worst.
